Freightliner Australia

Freightliner Australia prides itself on reliability, integrity, safety and excellence.

In 2009, after unprecedented success in European markets, the Freightliner Group launched an Australian subsidiary. Freightliner Australia Pty Ltd began transporting containerised cotton and agri products for Namoi Cotton in New South Wales, Australia, having gained accreditation as a Rail Transport Operator in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.

It has since won a ten-year contract with Xstrata Coal for the provision of rail haulage services from its Hunter Valley coalmines in New South Wales to the port of Newcastle. The operations, which began in January 2011, mark the start of a ten year contract between Freightliner Australia and Xstrata in which Freightliner operates as an in house rail provider for Xstrata operating under the branding of X-rail. The service currently operates with four train sets, each consisting of three locomotives and 90 wagons, and they are expected to provide haulage for about 10 million tonnes of coal per year with opportunities of expansion incorporated.

By demonstrating its commitment to invest where business opportunities exist with customers seeking innovative transport solutions, Freightliner has continued to set standards of reliability, customer service and flexibility in the rail freight industry and continues to introduce these qualities to new and growing markets.
